The Alaska Aces were able to overcome both the foul trouble to star player Calvin Abueva and a fourth quarter Rain or Shine lead as they stormed back to beat the Elasto Painters, 94-89, and clinched the No. 2 seed in the Oppo PBA Philippine Cup on Wednesday at the Cuneta Astrodome.

It didn’t come as easy as the Aces only got a little over 12 foul-plagued minutes from ‘The Beast’, who finished with four points and four rebounds, and trailed by seven points, 86-79, with seven minutes left in the game.

But they closed the game out on a 15-3 run to seal the victory, as well as the No. 2 seed and the twice-to-beat advantage for the quarterfinal round.

Alaska tied Star at 7-4 but will take second place due to their winning the head-to-head between the two teams, 97-90, last January 11. –
