Baser Amer and Carl Bryan Cruz were named by Gilas Pilipinas coach Chot Reyes to the team’s Final 12 for the much-awaited game vs powerhouse Australia, Monday night at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue Bulacan.
Amer and Cruz will take the place of Jio Jalalon and Allen Maliksi, 2 players chosen to play against Chinese Taipei and did so albeit sparingly.
The rest of the team was carried over from the previous game, with Andray Blatche, June Mar Fajardo and Jayson Castro leading the way. Rounding up the Philippine squad are Terrence Romeo, Roger Pogoy, Troy Rosario, Gabe Norwood, Calvin Abueva, Japeth Aguilar and Matthew Wright.
Gilas improved to 4-1 after the 93-72 road win over Chinese Taipei and will dispute Group B leadership with the Boomers who surprisingly lost to Japan earlier the same day.
Australia subdued Gilas, 84-68 during their first meeting last February 22 in Melbourne.
Japan and Chinese Taipei will battle for the right to join the Philippines and Australia into the next round of the 2019 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers.
