The newly rechristened Bataan Risers will retain the services of MPBL Anta Raja Cup top scorer Gary David.
The change in moniker, aside from re-signing of David, was confirmed by team administrator to FOX Sports PH Borgie Hermida.
“We have chosen Risers kasi nga dati nagkaroon sila ng phrase na ‘Bataan has fallen.’ We have chosen Risers because hindi lang naman yung name ang gusto naming ibangon, but we also want to rise our MPBL team,” said Hermida.
The team has also enlisted several high profile players like former Alab Pilipinas guard Pamboy Raymundo and Gilas Cadets Jayjay Alejandro and Abu Tratter.
Tratter, however, is still subject to screening by league commissioner Kenneth Duremdes.
“He’s overmatched with the locals and the homegrown players. If you noticed, maliliit talaga mga big men ng mga teams sa MPBL,” explained the former PBA MVP through a text message.
Other new recruits include Fil-Canadian Vince Tolentino and former Paranaque Patriot Gab Dagangon.
The Risers will be mentored by former Alaska and NLEX assistant coach Jojo Lastimosa with fellow one-time PBA personalities Victor Pablo and Andy de Guzman serving as assistants.
