Fresh from capturing a third straight PBA Philippine Cup crown, San Miguel Beer hopes to carry the momentum to the next conference which opens on March 17 with 6-8, 240-pound import Charles Rhodes of Mississippi State leading the charge to ease the pressure off JuneMar Fajardo in the middle.
“Charles plays big,” said San Miguel team manager Gee Abanilla. “He’s the second all-time leader in blocks in the Korean Basketball League. He’ll be able to help us especially on defense.”
Rhodes, 31, has played as an import in Latvia, Spain, Turkey, Israel and Korea. He’s coming off a stint with the Ulsan Mobis Phoebus in Korea where he averaged 23.8 points, 11.2 rebounds and 31.5 minutes in 33 games. Rhodes also shot 41.9 percent from beyond the arc, 52.1 percent from the field and 70.4 percent from the line. He had games of 43, 46 and 47 points.
Rhodes is expected to arrive from Jackson, Mississippi, tomorrow. – The Philippine Star
