After all the pre-finals hype and hoopla, titleholder Barangay Ginebra and challenger Meralco finally let their game do the talking on the floor as they begin their best-of-seven showdown for the ultimate prize in the PBA Governors Cup at the Quezon Convention Center in Lucena Friday.
Both teams travelled to the Quezon provincial capital a day ahead of the match so they could hold a practice session and have a better feel of the court for the series opener to be tipped off at 7 p.m.
After practice, both declared they’re ready for each other in what could well be a long, grind-out series.
“It’s gonna be tough, and it’s gonna be rough,” said Ginebra coach Tim Cone considering the great motivation of both sides to win.
It’s an expected cutthroat duel between corporate rivals, with one chasing a breakthrough PBA championship and the other shooting for a first-ever title repeat.
It’s a sequel to their title face-off in the same tourney last year won by the Gin Kings on a dramatic buzzer-beating three-pointer by import Justin Brownlee.
