Brgy. Ginebra San Miguel started the quarterfinals the way it ended the elimination round, with a rousing victory.
The Gin Kings zoomed to their 6th straight win and took a 1-0 quarterfinal series lead with a 88-81 shellacking of the 4th-seeded Meralco Bolts, Monday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Justin Brownlee stood head and shoulders above the rest as the two-time PBA champion delivered the goods when it mattered the most.
Brownlee scattered 25 points including the dagger triple which gave Brgy. Ginebra an 87-79 lead with the game down to the last 25.5 seconds.
The do-it-all import added 9 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks in 42 minutes of action.
Joe Davance chipped in 14 points while the twin tower combo of Greg Slaughter and Japeth Aguilar added 13 and 10 points respectively.
New recruit Jeff Chan came up with his best game so far in a Gin Kings uniform as the lefty sniper had 8 points including his first triple which was widely anticipated by the team’s avid supporters.
Baser Amer top-scored for the Bolts with 15 points while Jared Dilliner added 13.
Arinze Onuaku had a game-high 18 rebounds but could only contribute 12 points in his team’s losing cause.
