Brgy. Ginebra continued on with its winning ways, coming up with an unexpected 105-86 dismantling of the Alaska Aces, Sunday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Prolific import Justin Brownlee led the Gin Kings onslaught with a near triple-double – 28 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists as the league’s most popular squad picked up its 4th straight win to improve to 5-5.
The Gin Kings started off strong and zoomed to a 30-16 lead at the end the 1st period. The team continued to pound the Aces in the 2nd and 3rd, posting leads as high as 33 before relaxing in the payoff quarter.
LA Tenorio, Japeth Aguilar and Sol Mercado came through with double figures, finishing with 12, 10 and 10 points respectively.
Vic Manuel paced the Aces with 20 points but lacked support as import Antonio Campbell could only come up with 6. Jake Pascual managed to finish with 11 markers but it came when the game was already out of reach.
The win propelled Brgy. Ginebra to a share of sixth place with idle GlobalPort and just a shade behind 5th running San Miguel which is carrying a 5-4 record.
The Aces, meanwhile, dropped to 7-3 after absorbing back-to-back losses.
The PBA will take a 10-day break in support of Gilas Pilipinas’ quest in the 2019 FIBA Asian Qualifiers and will resume action on July 4.
