In dire need of a big man due to the unavailability of its top center Greg Slaughter due to injury, Brgy. Ginebra wasted no time in signing up unrestricted free agent Prince Caperal.
The 24-year old Caperal, a 6-foot-7 center out of Arellano University, was recently dropped by the KIA Picanto from its roster to make room for the return of sophomore Russel Escoto.
Caperal was the 17th overall pick in the 2014 draft and played for GlobalPort for just one season. He was traded to Brgy. Ginebra the following year for Dorian Pena but was quickly traded again to Barako Bull (now Phoenix) along with Mac Baracael as part of a four-team deal. The Gin Kings eventually ended up with Joe Devance. After two seasons with the Barako Bull/Phoenix franchise, he was dealt to KIA for Joseph Eriobu.
The addition of Caperal was deemed as a necessity by Brgy. Ginebra management as Slaughter is still listed as day-to-day due to a strained hamstring which he suffered during the team’s game against Blackwater.
The Gin Kings are currently 1-2 with the injured 7-footer.
Brgy. Ginebra coach Tim Cone however bared that Slaughter has already practiced with the team and is considered a possibility for their game against NLEX on Saturday, February 3 at Cuneta Astrodome.
