With Brgy. Ginebra San Miguel’s failure to advance to the championship round of the ongoing Philippine Cup coupled by the strong showing of Alab Pilipinas in the ASEAN Basketball League, Justin Brownlee’s stint as the Gin Kings’ reinforcement in the upcoming Commissioner’s Cup has been put on hold for the moment.
The PBA’s mid-conference spectacle is scheduled to start on April 21 and will come in conflict with the ABL as the regional league is expected to be in its playoffs stage by that time. And with Brownlee’s team Alab in the thick of the fight for the title, the charismatic import will surely miss the first wave of games of Brgy. Ginebra.
In light of this development, import-agent Sheryl Reyes has posted on her social media account that former Alaska import Shane Edwards has been tapped as temporary replacement for Brownlee.
Brownlee will assume his old role with the team once his duties with Alab comes to an end.
Edwards played for the Aces in the 2016 Commissioner’s Cup also as a stand-in for original import Robert Dozier who was still recovering from plantar fasciitis injury. He averaged 22.11 points, 11.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 10 games for the Wilfred Uytengsu-owned franchise.
He is currently seeing action for CLS Indonesia also in the ABL but the team failed to advance to the next round.
