For the second time this season, Alaska star Calvin Abueva is nowhere to be found.
Moments after clinching their 5th straight win of the conference, Aces coach Alex Compton confirmed the sudden disappearance of the player more popularly referred to as “The Beast”.
“He hasn’t shown up to practice since the All-Star break and we’ve been reaching out to him. He’s just going through some personal issues and we’re just hoping he’s safe and alright,” said the American mentor.
“Calvin, if you’re watching, I hope you’re okay,” added Compton.
The 30-year old native of Angeles City, Pampanga first went missing around January of this year. He failed to attend Alaska and Gilas practice sessions which forced national team coach Chot Reyes to drop him from the roster.
It turned out that Abueva was having domestic issues.
And just like the first time it happened, Compton admitted that the team understands Abueva’s situation and is completely behind their troubled forward.
“We’ve tried connecting but I think he’s sorting things out in his life. It’s our profession, we love it, but it’s not the meaning of life. Life’s bigger than the game.”
