PBA Commissioner Chito Narvasa has officially placed his stamp of approval on the controversial KIA – San Miguel deal.
In a press conference held at the Philippine Arena, venue for Game 7 of the Finals between the Meralco Bolts and the Brgy. Ginebra San Miguel, Narvasa announced the approval of the trade proposal which was submitted as early as last week.
Originally, the Beermen were supposed to send JayR Reyes, Keith Agovida, Rashawn McCarthy and a future draft pick for KIA’s 1st round pick in the 2017 PBA Rookie Draft. That pick turned out to be the top overall due to KIA’s mediocre performance all-season long.
After a slight revision, the trade was finally approved despite strong backlash from fans and media.

Instead of Agovida, San Miguel inserted Ronald Tubid into the package along with Reyes, McCarthy and the team’s 1st round pick in the 2019 rookie draft.
