The country’s national basketball team, this time under the Chooks To Go banner, will participate in the 2017 FIBA Asia Champions Cup slated on September 22 to 30 in Chenzhou, China.
The Philippines was awarded a wild-card entry after Japan pulled out of the Asian inter-club event.
Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) executive director said that it was a request from FIBA which was immediately approved by chief backer Manuel V. Pangilinan.
Chooks To Go is bracketed in Group A with BC Astana (Kazakhstan), Mono Vampires (Thailand), PetroChimi (Iran) and Sarreyyet Ramallah (Palestine).
Group B will have Al Shabab Al Ahli (UAE), ONGC (India), Al Riyadi (Lebanon), Dacin Tigers (Chinese Taipei), and Kashgar (China).
Each team shall play all the other teams within its own group.
The final stage standings will be established after the Preliminary Round as follows:
Group A: A1, A2, A3, A4, A5
Group B: B1, B2, B3, B4, B5
The teams placed 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th in each group will qualify directly for the Quarterfinals.
The eight (8) teams qualified from the Second Round will play as follows:
QF1: A1 vs B4
QF2: A2 vs B3
QF3: B1 vs A4
QF4: B2 vs A3
SF1: Winner QF1 vs Winner QF4
SF2: Winner QF2 vs Winner QF3
SF1 Winner vs SF2 Winner
