The San Miguel Beermen are not the holders of the Philippine Cup Perpetual trophy for nothing.

The Beermen just recently survived a gallant stand by the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters and won 103-96 despite playing all-filipino for most parts of the game.

Chris Ross led the Beermen charge and finished with 27 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals.

The cat-quick point guard shot 10 out of 18 from the field including a hot 5 of 8 shooting from 3-point country.

The 32-year old, native of San Antonio Texas later admitted that the locals hold the key to the team’s campaign this season-ending Governors’ Cup.

“It’s not really about the imports, it’s about the locals coming to play,” said Ross.

“If we do that, and the locals coming to play every night, then we’ll be a tough team to beat,” he added.

The Beermen snapped a two-game losing skid with the win and more importantly positioned themselves in the thick of the fight once again for a Top 4 finish and along with it a twice-to-beat advantage going into the next round. – Victor Adea
