When original choice Malcolm Thomas had a change of heart and replacement Octavius Ellis was forced to deal with pressing matters back in the United States, Alaska coach Alex Compton was left scrambling to find an able reinforcement who can fit the Aces’ system.
And two matches into the 2017 PBA Commissioner’s Cup, Compton and the rest of Aces appear to have found what they’re looking for.
“He’s a great fit for us,” said the Aces coach of Cory Jefferson who delivered solid numbers anew in Alaska’s 109-95 victory over Blackwater.
But more than the numbers, Compton is more impressed with how the way Jefferson is embracing the Aces’ “We Not Me” mentality with ease.
“Personally, we don’t believe we need the import to win us the championship. We need everybody, everybody has responsibility . The guys are trying to embrace that. But it helps that they believe Cory is a championship-caliber of an import.” – FOX Sports Asia
