Fajardo on match-up with Slaughter: ‘Natalo niya ako sa scoring pero nanalo naman kami’

June Mar Fajardo and the San Miguel Beermen may have won their recent battle with defending champion Brgy. Ginebra now anchored once again by the 7-foot-1 Greg Slaughter but the three-time league MVP noticed something that will somehow be a cause for concern in their future encounters.

Slaughter, whom Fajardo faced for the first time since last season’s Commissioner’s Cup, was back in harness after suffering a torn ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) which took him out of commission for almost an entire year.

“Magaling naman sya dati eh. Ngayon, mas lumakas pa sya at lumapad,” said Fajardo on Slaughter’s return. “Mas madali pa sa kanya maka-score. Natalo niya ako sa scoring pero nanalo naman kami.”

Slaughter managed to score 16 points, on 6 of 11 shooting, and haul down 7 rebounds in 22 minutes of playing time while Fajardo had a double-double with 10 points on 5 of 12 shooting and 15 rebounds.

The 6-foot-10 native of Pinamungajan, Cebu got the last laugh however as the Beermen ended the 7-game winning streak of the Gin Kings with a 107-103 victory.

Fajardo credited his teammates and their new import Terrence Watson for the win.

“Nag-step up sila Chris Ross, Marcio, Alex, at si Arwind. Magaling yung import namin. Ang simple nya maglaro pero effective. Hopefully, magtuloy-tuloy na.” – Mae Villarin
