Former Brgy. Ginebra San Miguel import Vernon Macklin is set for a PBA return, this time as reinforcement for the Magnolia Hotshots, the Gin Kings’ Manila Clasico rival.
Import agent Sheryl Reyes confirmed the news on her Twitter account.

The 31-year old, 6-foot-10 Macklin led Brgy. Ginebra to the 2013 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals but was swept by the Alaska Aces, 3-0. The Gin Kings were then coached by Alfrancis Chua, who is now the Team Governor as well as the Sports Director of SMC.
After his PBA stint, Macklin played for the LA Clippers in the 2013 NBA Summer League before plying his trade in China. He lasted only 7 games though for the Liaoning Flying Leopards.
In 2014, he signed up with Qatari Basketball League team El Jaish SC where he played for 3 years.
He returned to the Philippines in 2016 for a short visit and played for Mighty Sports in the 38th William Jones Cup. The team went on to claim the title with an undefeated run in 8 games.
Magnolia coach Chito Victolero admitted that they were looking forward to bringing back Ricardo Ratliffe for another run at the mid-season tourney but the 28-year old American recently became a naturalized citizen of South Korea making his PBA return an unlikely scenario.
