It may have come against the lowly NLEX, but a win is still a win for GlobalPort.

In the battle of two listless squads, the Batang Pier emerged on top as they finally snapped their four-game losing skid, escaping the Road Warriors, 85-82, in the Oppo PBA Commissioner’s Cup Wednesday at SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

Import Malcolm White scored 23 points and 16 rebounds while Stanley Pringle added 15 points, five rebounds and four assists for the Batang Pier who avoided having the league’s worst record.

That still belongs to the hapless NLEX which dropped its sixth straight game to remain winless.

Just like in their epic meltdown versus TNT where they squandered a 29-point edge, the Road Warriors also blew a double-digit lead in this one. They were up by 10 points, 23-13, in the first quarter but the Batang Pier managed to come back quickly after an 8-2 run. –
