Brgy. Ginebra arranged a quarterfinals date with Rain or Shine after a gruelling triple overtime win over the same team during the last play date of the elimination round of the 2018 PBA Philippine Cup.
The Gin Kings managed to pull off the much-needed win without its tallest player, 7-foot Greg Slaughter.
The 29-year old center was out with a sprained ankle and the bad news is Slaughter might be unavailable for the duration of the qualterfinals due to the same injury.
“Sprains like these are for a few weeks, but I’m trying to do everything I can to get back in these quarterfinals hopefully. If not, God willing we make it out and hopefully I can join them as soon as I can,” said Slaughter during a post-game interview last Friday.
Picking up the cudgels for the injured slotman was his frontcourt partner Japeth Aguilar who exploded for a conference-high 30 points on top of 17 rebounds. Also stepping up for the Gin Kings were LA Tenorio and Joe Devance who fired 20 and 15 points respectively. Scottie Thompson meanwhile added 10 points and hauled down 17 big rebounds.
Game 1 of the Brgy. Ginebra vs Rain or Shine best-of-three series is on Monday, March 5, 7:00pm at the MOA Arena.
