Star wiped out an 11-point deficit in the third quarter and established its own commanding spread in the fourth en route to a 104-98 spanking of a June Mar Fajardo-less San Miguel Beer side in the PBA Governors Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum Friday night.

Malcolm Hill, Rafi Reavis, Ian Sangalang and Rodney Brondial put in double-digit outputs as the Hotshots notched a third straight win while handing the Beermen a first loss in three starts.

The Beermen actually waged their own fightback at endgame, but the Hotshots hung tough and finished the job on key buckets by Hill and Sangalang.

Hill nailed a trey after the Beermen came within two at 95-97 while Sangalang drained 4-of-4 free throws in the closing seconds to wrap up the win.

“I’m very happy with this win against San Miguel Beer dahil minsan lang yan matalo,” said Star coach Chito Victolero. “It’s very important for the future. Kung makaharap uli namin sila, at least alam namin na kaya namin silang talunin.” – PBA
