Despite facing a must-win situation in Game 4, Brgy. Ginebra San Miguel succumbed to the pressure and went the opposite direction against defending champion San Miguel Beermen in the form of a 102-81 rout.
The Gin Kings simply had no answer to the Beermen’s firepower with only Japeth Aguilar and LA Tenorio answering the call. Aguilar pumped in 31 points while Tenorio had 20. In stark contrast, the Beermen paraded 6 players who churned in double figures in scoring led by Marcio Lassiter who shot 5 of 10 from long distance to finish with a team-high 23 points.
Win the win, the Beermen moved 1 win away from a return trip to the PBA Philippine Cup Finals.
“I don’t really have that much to say. They just took it to us. It was brilliant coaching by coach Leo. They played well but that comes from the bench. On the other hand, it was terrible coaching by me,” said a dejected Brgy. Ginebra coach Tim Cone during the post-game interview.
“We gave that zone life and never got it going,” added Cone whose team started out slow and paid early for it.
Game 5 of the series is scheduled on Saturday, March 17, 6:30pm at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.
