Austin leads fourth quarter surge as Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas nips Mono Vampire of Thailand 115-102

Chooks-To-Go Pilipinas improved its record to 2-1 after a 115-102 victory against Mono Vampire Basketball Club of Thailand in the 2017 FIBA Asia Champions Cup.

Isaiah Austin had a monster game with his 27-point, 19-rebound performance to go along with 4 shot blocks, while Carl Bryan Cruz scored 28 points including eight three-pointers. Kiefer Ravena went on with his scoring consistency as he contributed 24 points. LA Revilla played his best game of the tournament so far with his 9 points, 9 assists, and 2 steals.

The Chot Reyes-mentored squad started strong and found themselves in the lead at the end of the first period, 31-22, but Thailand somehow was able to contain the offensive run from the Philippines as they managed to reduce the lead to just six points at the end of the half. The Philippines had the early advantage in the third with a 6-0 run but Thailand’s outside shooting kept them close and forced an 81-77 game at the end of the quarter.

The Philippines had an impressive rally in the fourth to give them a 107-92 advantage with over two minutes left.

Michael Singletary led a 10-2 run for the Thai club to reduce the lead but was too late for them to get back into the game. Singletary finished with 32 points and 10 rebounds, while Jason Brickman scored 17 points and delivered 9 assists.

The squad is scheduled to take on their next assignment, Petrochimi of Iran on Tuesday at 9:45pm.
