For the first time in his PBA career, James Yap will be looking from the outside when Star and Barangay Ginebra clash in Game 1 of the PBA Philippine Cup best-of-7 semifinal series on Thursday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The 6-foot-2 Yap, who has long been the face of the Purefoods franchise prior to being traded to Rain or Shine, admitted it felt weird to know that he won’t be part of the semifinal series between two of the league’s most popular ball clubs this conference.

“Ganun talaga. Okay lang naman, tanggap ko na naman eh na wala na tayo sa team, pero siyempre, first Manila Clasico na wala ako. Parang weird,” Yap admitted to FOX Sports on Thursday.

For over a decade, Yap and Ginebra’s veteran star Mark Caguioa were considered the faces of the two popular PBA franchises. – FOX Sports Asia
