Jayson Castro continued to thrive on off-the-bench role, pouring in 27 points, including two treys in a crucial run in the fourth quarter, as TNT KaTropa drubbed Barangay Ginebra, 96-92, for a third straight win in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the MOA Arena Sunday night.
RR Pogoy, Troy Rosario and Don Trollano scored 15, 14 and 11 points, respectively, to help make up for the mere five-point combined production of import Jeremy Tyler and Terrence Romeo.
Nonetheless, the Texters put together a solid effort as they made it three in a row in the mid-season tourney following earlier triumphs over the GlobalPort Batang Pier and the Phoenix Fuel Masters.
Tyler made just two points but had the last laugh versus Chuck Garcia.
There were reports after the game though that Josh Smith would soon take over from Tyler.
But Castro stood out with his 27-point game that he also laced with five assists, three steals and one rebound in 28 minutes of action off the bench.
Japeth Aguilar and Joe Devance led the losing team with 19 points apiece while the Ginebra import contributed 15 markers, nine boards, two assists and two steals against three turnovers.
