While the 2018 Philippine Cup title is still up for grabs, the race for the Best Player of the Conference award is already over in favor of San Miguel’s gentle giant June Mar Fajardo.
The 6-foot-10 native of Pinamungajan Cebu is on pace to win the award for an unprecedented 6th time, one more than mentor and fellow SMB great Danny Ildefonso.
Fajardo emerged on top of the statistical points race at the end of the semis with 44.2 SPs on the strength of a league-leading 22.9 points to go along 12.9 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per contest. Brgy. Ginebra’s Japeth Aguilar is his closest pursuer with 36.7 SPs. GlobalPort’s Stanley Pringle ended up tied with SMB team captain Arwind Santos at number 3 with 36.4 SPs.
Blackwater’s vastly improved center JP Erram finished at 5th spot followed by SMB snipers Marcio Lassiter and Alex Cabagnot.
Phoenix’ Matthew Wright, Alaska’s Calvin Abueva, Brgy. Ginebra’s Scottie Thompson and TNT’s Jayson Castro round up the top 10.
The league is set to hand out the BPC award before Game 4 of the Finals series between San Miguel and Magnolia scheduled on Wednesday, April 4, 7:00pm at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
