The KIA Picanto have dropped at least five players from their roster after acquiring Ronald Tubid, JayR Reyes, and Rashawn McCarthy from the San Miguel Beermen trade with their top draft pick. Among those given the pink slip were Nico Salva, Jason Ballesteros, and Nico Elorde.
Sources say Salva has been picked up by the Meralco Bolts while Ballesteros and Elorde are being considered by GlobalPort. Salva will rejoin his former college coach Norman Black at Meralco. Salva and Black were with the Ateneo team that won five UAAP men’s basketball championship.
KIA also dropped Jason Deutchman and Josan Nimes from its roster. Sources say the Picanto are also unlikely to sign any of the rookies it picked in the recent draft, namely Chris de Chavez, Arvie Bringas, and Christian Geronimo.
More roster changes are expected ahead of the Dec. 17 opening of the 2017-2018 Philippine Cup to start the 43rd season of the PBA.
