Gilas Pilipinas head coach Chot Reyes just revealed through his social media accounts the composition of a 23-man national team pool for the 2023 FIBA World Cup which will be staged here in the Philippines as well as in Indonesia and Japan.
The list is divided into three groups: Guards, Wings and Bigs.
Robert Bolick, CJ Perez, Juan Gomez de Liano, Remy Martin, Matt Nieto and Paul Desiderio are the guards.
Thirdy Ravena, JJ Alejandro, James Tuffin, Jeo Ambohot, Kobe Paras, Dwight Ramos, Joshua Sinclair, Arvin Tolentino and Javee Mocon are the wings.
Kai Sotto, Isaac Go, Abu Tratter, AJ Edu, Karl Vincent Tamayo, Kenmark Cariño, Will Gozum and Troy Rike are the bigs.
Matt Nieto is the smallest at 5’10” while Kai Sotto is the tallest at 7’2″, he is also the youngest at 16 years old.
The list is bannered by three Fil-Ams who have yet to set foot on Philippine soil but have already been introduced to Filipino hoops fans through highlight reels on YouTube. They are Martin, Ramos and Rike.
Left out of the pool were DLSU players Ricci Rivero, Aljun Melecio and Andrei Caracut after the school requested the Gilas coaching staff not to include any of their players because they are now in the process of transition and re-formation of their program.
Reyes however made if clear that the list is not yet final and players can still be removed or added anytime depending on the prevailing situation.
