The Magnolia Hotshots are making their 4th import change in the ongoing 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
The 3rd team under the SMC umbrella stated off with former Brgy. Ginebra import Vernon Macklin who suited up for 4 games before leaving for China’s National Basketball League with a guaranteed contract offer.
The 31-year old American towed the Hotshots to a 3-1 record before departing.
Curtis Kelly arrived to take the place of Macklin but was clearly outmatched by the other imports, failing to lead the team to a win in 2 games.
Justin Jackson then took over and while he was definitely an improvement from Kelly, his lack of scoring coupled by poor free throw shooting likewise failed to convince the team’s coaching staff that he was the right man for the job.
Jackson was able to lead the team to a rousing win over TNT but a crippling loss to Manila Clasico rival Brgy. Ginebra proved to be his final outing.
Magnolia, it seems, has had enough of untested reinforcements as the team has decided to bring in former Best Import awardee Wayne Chism.
Chism, who will suit up for his 3rd PBA team after Rain or Shine and NLEX, will make his debut against his former coach (Yeng Guiao) and the Road Warriors on Wednesday, July 4 at the MOA Arena.
The Hotshots are currently sporting a 4-5 card and are in danger of missing the mid-season playoffs after coming off an impressive finals stint in the Philippine Cup.
