San Miguel Beermen sharp-shooter Marcio Lassiter is ready once Gilas Pilipinas coach Chot Reyes calls on him to play for the country’s national basketball team.
This development came after the PBA Board of Governors heeded Commissioner Willie Marcial’s request to lift the limit on number of players per team that can simultaneously play for Gilas.
June Mar Fajardo has always been the automatic choice as San Miguel’s representative during the time of the one-player-per-team policy. Now that it has been lifted, the possibility of Lassiter joining Fajardo on the team can now be a reality.
The 30-year old Fil-Am however clarified that the decision still lies with Reyes.
“I hope so, but it all depends on coach Chot. We’ll see what happens. When it comes, it comes,” Lassiter said.
Gilas could surely use the the skills and veteran presence of Lassiter more so with the continued absence of Terrence Romeo due to an injury and the on-and-off performance of shooters Matthew Wright, Roger Pogoy and Allein Maliksi.
Lassiter has already begged off twice from playing for Gilas, both due to health concerns and it’s still uncertain if he’ll indeed suit up once he gets another call-up.
