Mono Vampire refused to go quietly into the night and forced a winner-take-all Game 5 against San Miguel Alab Pilipinas in the 2017-18 ASEAN Basketball League Finals, Monday night at Stadium 29 in Bangkok Thailand.
The hosts stood their ground throughout the game and in the closing moments relied on Filipino Paul Zamar’s floater to give the home team an 88-83 lead with only 17 seconds left to play.
The victory enabled the Thailand-based team to equalize the best-of-five series at 2 games apiece and force a rubber match on Wednesday, May 2 at the Sta. Rosa Multi-Purpose Sports Complex in Laguna.
Sam Deguara reprised his role as an immovable force inside as the 7-foot-5 native of Malta finished with 20 points, 13 rebounds and 5 blocks. Fellow world import Mike Singletary also produced 20 markers to go along with 8 assists and 7 rebounds.
Zamar contributed 11 points while Fil-Am Jason Brickman added 13.
ABL Local MVP Ray Parks led the Philippine side with 21 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists.
Renald Balkman and Justin Brownlee both finished with 18 points but committed 8 and 7 turnovers respectively.
