The expansion of Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) into the South just got into motion with 3 teams confirming their participation just before the May 4 deadline set by league founder Senator Manny Pacquiao.

Davao Occidental jumped the gun on everybody else by becoming the first ever to join from the Visayas-Mindanao area. They will carry the moniker “Tigers” and will be coached by former Rain or Shine player Don Dulay and managed by Bhong Baribar.

The General Santos Warriors and Zamboanga Valientes soon followed suit, bringing the total number of participating teams to 23.

With the deadline still two days away, more teams from the South are expected to make it in time for the 2nd conference which kicks off on June 12.
