Being guarded by former two-time league MVP James Yap surely sends chills down one’s spine. Blackwater rookie Mac Belo could offer proof to that.
Despite a near double-double performance on Friday night, the 6-foot-4 Belo gamely admitted he still got starstruck when he was guarded by Yap, causing him to fire an airball in what turned out to be a game-long offensive struggle by the Elite freshman against the Elasto Painters’ stymieing defense.
Belo dished out yet another all-around performance of 13 points, nine rebounds and three assists.
“Kapos ang tira ko. Na-starstruck ako kasi siya ‘yung nasa harap ko,” admitted Belo. “Hindi ko na nga maalala kung first quarter o nu’ng second. Basta first half ‘yun.”
Belo’s lackluster offensive showing could be considered as one of the reasons why Blackwater suffered its second straight loss and dropped to an even 2-2 mark in the 2017 PBA Philippine Cup. – FOX Sports Asia
