NLEX picks up first Commissioner’s Cup win with 120-115 overtime victory over Phoenix

NLEX survived a furious Phoenix fightback to finally score a breakthrough win in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup in overtime, 120-115, Friday at the Alonte Sports Arena here.

Import Arnett Moultrie had 21 of his 37 points in the first half, but it took some clutch three-point shooting from veterans Larry Fonacier and Alex Mallari in the extra period to put the gritty Fuel Masters away and clinch the Road Masters first win in four starts.

Moultrie added 17 rebounds, while JR Quinahan led NLEX’s locals with 16 points.

Mallari finished with 13, while Fonacier with 11 as the two combined for six of the Road Warriors’ 13 three-pointers.

The Fuel Masters were led by Matthew Wright with 31 points including 15 in the fourth and overtime periods.

Import James White added 19 and 11 rebounds and sent the game into overtime after tip-in off a Jason Perkins miss in the final 5.1 seconds, 104-all.
