Is Mac Cardona on the way back to the big league?
The 35-year old shooting guard out of DLSU posted an intriguing photo on his Instagram account. Photo was taken at the Gatorade Hoops Center in Mandaluyong City, and Cardona was together with fellow La Sallians, foremost of which is GlobalPort coach Franz Pumaren. Batang Pier players Ryan Arana, Rico Mairhofer, Mike Cortez and newly-acquired Arnold Van Opstal were present, along with Renren Ritualo and Tonichi Yturri who form part of Pumaren’s coaching staff at Adamson University.
When asked if Cardona is already part of the squad, Pumarend replied, “We still have to take a look at him in the next few days if he is still capable of playing in the PBA.”
The 11-year PBA veteran last played for the NLEX Road Warriors in 2016 but was ultimately dropped due to domestic issues. He was hospitalized last August due to sleeping pill overdose which nearly cost him his life.
Cardona has since turned over a new leaf and has recently suited for the PBA D-League as a member of Zark’s Burgers. – Victor Adea
