Just days after GlobalPort star guard Terrence Romeo and head coach Pido Jarencio were engaged in a highly publicized shouting match in what turned out to be the team’s last game of the conference, Nelson Beltran of The Philippine Star revealed that The Batang Pier and TNT KaTropa have already agreed in principle to a swap which involves Romeo, Bradwyn Guinto, Moala Tautuaa and Alfrancis Tamsi.
Trade papers were sent to the PBA office for approval just before the deadline but the league reportedly turned it down.
With both teams now removed from the 2018 PBA Philippine Cup playoff picture, the deal is expected to be revisited.
GlobalPort peddled Romeo to other teams after the 25-year old Gilas mainstay requested to be traded.
League commissioner Willie Marcial formed a five-man committee who’s primary purpose is to approve/disapprove players swaps. Marcial is joined by legal counsel Melvin Mendoza, technical supervisor Eric Castro, Mauro Bengua and Rose Teotico.
Apparently, the initial trade proposal did not sit well with the committee as it heavily favored TNT. They suggested the addition of another solid guard or big man to balance the deal.
With the verbal tussle that just transpired between Romeo and Jarencio, there’s more reason to believe that a deal agreeable to the trade committee may be reached by the two teams soon thereby putting an end to Romeo’s five-year stint with the Neon Nation.
