The Philippines is once again the king of Southeast Asian basketball.
Gilas Pilipinas captured the gold medal in the Men’s basketball tournament by defeating Indonesia, 94-55, in the 29th edition of the SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Mike Tolomia caught fire, scoring 20 points to lead the Philippines. Kobe Paras came second in scoring with 14 points on a perfect 6-for-6 shooting clip while Raymar Jose chipped in with 12.
It was a 26-12 second quarter run that first created separation for the young Gilas squad against a gritty Indonesian team.
In that pivotal scoring spree, Gilas displayed its full strength. Ray Parks stopped every Indonesian he was up against. Kiefer Ravena created opportunities for his teammates thanks to his dribble penetration.
Kobe Paras electrified the entire arena with his supreme athleticism. And Mike Tolomia, the man who has been a thorn on the side of every team in the SEA Games, lit up the scoreboard once again.
The game was filled with highlights and scintillating plays for our 12-man team. – Sports5
