At one point in the second quarter, the Phoenix Fuel Masters found themselves down by 15 points, 29-14, against the GlobalPort Batang Pier. With memories of a tough loss to the Meralco Bolts last Wednesday still on their minds, they hung together to turn their fortunes around.
Showcasing a relentless spirit, particularly on defense, the Fuel Masters picked up a huge win against the Batang Pier, winning 84-72 in a stirring come from behind victory Friday.
Jameel McKay led his squad with a monster double double game of 22 points and 20 rebounds, but it was the key contributions of the locals led by RJ Jazul that turned the tide for his new squad. The veteran from Letran submitted his best game in a Phoenix uniform, churning out 21 points to go along with four rebounds and two steals.
With the victory, Phoenix climbed to 4-5, while GlobalPort are in danger of elimination, falling into a tie in 10th place with the Blackwater Elite with identical 2-6 records. – Sports5
