The final four of the season-ending Governors’ Cup has boiled down to a corporate battle between the 2 dominant groups of the PBA, the SMC Group of Ramon Ang and the MVP Group of Manny Pangilinan.
While the flagship team of SMC is noticeably missing, the top two teams of the MVP Group in terms of performance are still in the thick of the fight.
Carrying the cudgels for SMC is crowd favorite Brgy. Ginebra, who incidentally eliminated sister team San Miguel. The Beermen were gunning for a Grand Slam after winning the season’s Philippine and Commisioner’s Cup but a devastating loss to Meralco in its final game of the elimination round sent the league’s winningest franchise down to number 6 and along with it a twice-to-win disadvantage against the defending champions. The Gin Kings wasted no time in securing a return trip to semis by blowing the Beermen away, 104-84 in the Quarterfinals.
Taking the place of the Beermen for SMC are the Star Hotshots. The Hotshots haven’t won a title since bagging the Grand Slam in 2014 but have been on the rise since coach Chito Victolero took over. Along with Brgy. Ginebra and TNT, Star has been to the final four for the last 3 conferences and are now hoping to reach the Finals this time.
So, which match-up would you like to see in the Finals?
