Rain or Shine got back on winning ways after drubbing NLEX, 97-86 in the 2018 PBA Philippine Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Friday night.

Coming off a painful upset against KIA last week, 98-94, the Elasto Painters made sure of a strong payback at the expense of the slumping Road Warriors to get back on the winning column midway through the All Filipino conference.

Behind Maverick Ahanmisi, Rain or Shine launched a ferocious second quarter outburst to build a 15-point lead entering the break which they never relinquished down the wire.

ROS even led by as many as 21 points and just fended off NLEX’s repeated rallies the rest of the way.

The Road Warriors came to as close as 75-65 early in the fourth but just didn’t have enough gas in the tank to mount a comeback.

Rain or Shine improved to 3-3, breaking away from a crowded middle pack of the standings while NLEX went deeper down the cellar at 2-4 — good for 11th place heading into the homestand of the season.

All Elasto Painters barged into scoring department led by Maverick Ahanmisi with 20 points built on five triples to go along eight rebounds.

Gabe Norwood ans James Yap added 13 and 12 markers, respectively.

Meanwhile, JR Quiñahan’s 22 points went for naught as NLEX’s woes continues.

Alex Mallari and Kiefer Ravena chipped in 17 and 14 markers, respectively also in a losing cause for the Road Warriors who are yet to win this year.

NLEX last won against Globalport back on December 25, 2017 at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan.
