The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters finally gave in to the request of disgruntled guard Jericho Cruz to be dealt to another team, although it wasn’t to the NLEX Road Warriors.
The 27-year old Cruz had earlier expressed his disappointment over the system being run Rain or Shine coach Caloy Garcia and hinted that he preferred to reunite with former mentor Joseller “Yeng” Guiao.
While Guiao said that he was amenable to trading for Cruz, he added there was no offer on the table and if ever there was it would all depend on what Rain or Shine would ask for in exchange.
The deal however didn’t even reach first base and it was another team from the MVP Group that made the move.
The TNT KaTropa offered rookie Sidney Onwubere plus the team’s first round pick in the 2018 PBA Rookie Draft for the high-scoring guard out of Adamson University and the Elasto Painters readily obliged.
According to sources, trade papers will be signed by TNT team manager Virgil Villavicencio and Rain or Shine governor Mamerto Mondragon before being forwarded to the PBA office for approval.
Cruz, who has only played 3 games this season due to a nagging injury, will join his 2nd team in the league after spending the last 3 years with the team that drafted him 9th overall during the 2014 Rookie Draft while the rookie Onwubere will be on his way to his 3rd team after Phoenix, the team that drafted him 8th overall in the recent draft, and TNT.
