San Miguel Alab Pilipinas completed its spectacular season by winning the 2017-18 ASEAN Basketball League championship in five games in front of a jam-packed Sta. Rosa Multi-Purpose Complex in Laguna.

And along with Alab’s win came a personal victory for ABL back-to-back Local MVP Bobby Ray Parks, Jr.

Parks’ late father, Bobby Sr., led the San Miguel Beermen to a second place finish against the Indonesia Warriors in 2012.

During the press conference, Parks couldn’t hold back the tears as he dedicated the win to his late father.

“Dad, we did it,” said the 25-year old product of National University who was also adjudged as the Finals MVP.

“I got emotional very early. I’m just thankful to Alab for the opportunity. I’m just thankful for my teammates and coaches for trusting me,” added Parks.

Winning the title was the culmination of hard work and perseverance for Alab and Parks after the franchise fell short of its ultimate goal last season, getting swept by the Singapore Slingers in the semifinals.

“It was just a beautiful feeling to be here in the championship game, in Game 5, and bring it back home to the Philippines. Playing in front of your countrymen. It’s an honor.”
