Rain or Shine Elasto Painters head coach Caloy Garcia decided against fielding in big man Raymond Almazan during the team’s crucial encounter with the Phoenix Fuel Masters as a disciplinary measure after the 28-year old native of Orion, Bataan skipped two team practices.
Garcia said Almazan was absent during the team’s Sunday and Monday practices. Apparently, the two had an altercation during the team’s loss to the GlobalPort Batang Pier last Friday, serving as reason for the Gilas mainstay to skip practice.
When asked to comment about the incident, Garcia admitted that he called out Almazan for his poor shooting against GlobalPort, something which did not sit well with the player.
“Actually, after the loss against Global, medyo nagka-anuhan lang kami, but I think everything is good right now,” Garcia said shortly after Rain or Shine pulled off a convincing win over Phoenix despite missing the services of Almazan.
“Well, of course, frustration. We know that he can perform better than the way he did against Global. Actually, I told Raymond before the start of this season that one of my goals was to basically make him a double-double player. That’s my target at the beginning,” Garcia added.
