Kiefer Ravena was in the roster of the PBA Visayas All-Stars that was scheduled to take on the Smart All-Stars in the last leg of the league’s All-Star festivities on Sunday, May 27 at the San Agustin Gym in Iloilo City.
The 24-year old rookie, however, was nowhere to be found during the game as he was supposedly summoned by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) back to Manila for an urgent press conference on Monday, May 28.
This was revealed by no less than Commissioner Willie Marcial who added that he wasn’t at liberty to divulge the reason behind the SBP’s move.
Reports have it that the player dubbed as “The Phenom” tested positive for an illegal substance prior to Gilas Pilipinas’ game against the Japanese during the 2nd window of the 1st round of the 2019 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers.
The Philippine team won over the Akatsuki Five, 89-84 before a capacity crowd at the MOA Arena.
Ravena finished the game with 13 points, 2 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals.
In light of this development, the eldest son of former PBA player Bong Ravena is expected to be sanctioned by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA). A similar penalty may also be imposed by the PBA on the promising neophyte.
Other than the date of the presser, no other details were released by the SBP.
