The defending champions are back in familiar territory.
For the 4th consecutive season, the San Miguel Beermen are in the championship round of the most prestigious conference of the PBA, the Philippine Cup after clinching their best-of-seven series against Brgy. Ginebra in 5 games.
June Mar Fajardo displayed the form that made him the league’s only 4-time MVP in consecutive years by pouring in 25 points to lead a balanced attack that also saw 4 other Beermen score in double figures.
Marcio Lassiter had a second-best 23 points on the strength of 5 of 12 shooting from 3-point country.
Arwind Santos finished with a double-double of 11 points and 13 rebounds plus a team-high 4 steals.
Alex Cabagnot added 12 points while Matt Ganuelas-Rosser, filling in for Chris Ross in the team’s starting five, had a splendid performance as he came up with 14 points, 8 boards and 3 assists.
Japeth Aguilar once again paced the Gin Kings with 32 points but for the second straight game couldn’t get ample scoring support from the rest of the team. Scottie Thompson bounced back from a lethargic Game 4 with a triple double performance of 10 points, 16 rebounds and 16 assists.
The Beermen now await the winner of the NLEX vs Magnolia best-of-seven semifinal series which is currently tied at 2-2.
