San Miguel starts Comm’s Cup on a winning note with 99-92 conquest of erstwhile unbeaten Meralco

Three-peat Philippine Cup champions San Miguel Beermen opened the new conference with a bang, erasing a 15-point deficit to stun erstwhile undefeated Meralco Bolts, 99-92, in the OPPO PBA Commissioner’s Cup Sunday night at SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

Prized center June Mar Fajardo scored 24 points and 12 rebounds to pace the debuting Beermen while getting help from Alex Cabagnot who tallied 23 points and nine assists.

San Miguel import Charles Rhodes also impressed in his first PBA game, finishing with 22 points and 12 boards.

Their numbers were enough to neutralize the 21-point, 26-rebound performance from Alex Stepheson and deal Meralco (4-1) its first loss of the tournament. – InterAksyon.com
