Source: KIA willing to trade 1st round pick for a ‘certified game-changer’

Given its disappointing performance all season long, the KIA Picanto franchise may already have a lock on the top pick in the 2017 PBA Rookie Draft.

And with Fil-German Gilas sensation Christian Standhardinger declaring himself available for the annual exercise, the number 1 pick has become a hot commodity.

While the addition of a top caliber talent like Standhardinger would definitely boost the stock of any team that would secure his services, KIA is still keeping its options open.

A source from the KIA camp revealed that the team is willing to part with its top pick for a veteran player who’s a certified game changer.

The reason behind this development is that the team’s head coach, Manny Pacquiao, plans to take on a more active role with the franchise beginning next season.

“Boss Manny will have full control of the team by next season. That is actually the plan,” said the source.

“Alam ni Boss na very enticing yung pick nila kasi nga malamang Standhardinger yun. Pero parang wala na silang patience to see whether that kid would turn out to be a star or a draft bust,” the source added.

And with Pacquiao seemingly uninterested to go through a rebuilding process, the team has reportedly set its sights on some of the league’s accomplished veterans. Among the players said to be on the team’s radar are TNT’s Kelly Williams, Alaska’s Calvin Abueva and Rain or Shine’s Raymond Almazan. – Victor Adea
