Star coach Chito Victolero admits team starting to feel absence of Marc Pingris

It’s one thing to lose, and another to experience setback in a Manila Clasico rivalry.

No wonder Star head coach Chito Victolero is blaming himself after another loss to rival Brgy. Ginebra, the same team that denied them a breakthrough Finals stint in the Philippine Cup.

“Sabi ko sa kanila it’s my fault because I did not prepare them mentally for this game,” said Victolero moments after tasting their first loss in the Commissioner’s Cup with a 98-113 decider over the Gin Kings.

And without vocal leader Marc Pingris, who’s still recovering from an injury, to calm the Hotshots when the big crowd started to cheer on the Gin Kings, the amiable mentor already knew they had the disadvantage despite their clear height edge.

“Mabigat sa pagkawala ni Ping hindi ‘yung laro but yung leadership nya, especially pag medyo nahihirapan kami mag-settle down, si Ping ang tiga-ayos namin,” Victolero pointed out. – FOX Sports Asia
