Star guard Paul Lee credits Brgy. Ginebra defense for frustrating import Tony Mitchell

Star’s touted import Tony Mitchell finally had a taste of Barangay Ginebra’s suffocating defense on Sunday night—and it clearly left a bitter flavor on his mouth.

Up against the Gin Kings’ collapsing defense, the highly-athletic Mitchell struggled to get his usual dominant game going as the Hotshots absorbed a 98-113 loss in their anticipated Manila Clasico in the 2017 PBA Commissioner’s Cup before a packed Mall of Asia Arena.

A consistent double-double performer in Star’s first four solid victories, the former Detroit Piston was pushed out of his comfort zone by Ginebra’s defense despite coming up with 21 points anchored on 9-of-21 shooting and hauling down just nine rebounds in a foul-plagued 37 minutes of action.

“Frustrated siya,” admitted Star guard Paul Lee, adding the Gin Kings made a commendable job on slowing down the 6-foot-8 Mitchell.

“Pinaghirapan din talaga nila. Binigyan nila ng mahirap na game si Tony ngayon.” – FOX Sports Asia
