Strong second half powers La Salle to 91-72 rout of Gilas Cadets

The DLSU Green Archers recovered from a sluggish start and displayed the brand of basketball that made them one of the top collegiate teams in the country to deal the Gilas Cadets their 2nd straight defeat, 91-72 in the 2018 Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup, Friday night at The Arena in San Juan.

The Cadets looked like they were on the way to their first victory in the tournament after leading by as much as 20 points in the 2nd quarter.

The Green Archers, however, had other things in mind as they slowly worked their way back in the game before turning on the heat in the closing minutes of the final canto to win convincingly.

Kib Montalbo led the way for the Taft-based school with 25 points including 3 straight triples in the payoff period that completely took the Cadets out of the game. He also had 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals.

New Zealander Taane Samuel, a 6-foot-8 center about to make his UAAP debut for La Salle next season, finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Aljun Melecio added 18 points and 7 assists for the Green Archers who improved to 2-0.

Ricci Rivero struggled against his former team managing to score only 6 points in 21 minutes of action.

Kobe Paras led the Cadets with 19 points while Juan Gomez de Liaño and Arvin Tolentino contributed 14 points apiece.
