TNT KaTropa and the Phoenix Fuel Masters have agreed to exchange their first-round draft picks, with the Texters getting the No. 8 pick overall Sidney Onwubere while giving up No. 11 Jonjon Gabriel.
Onwubere is a prolific 23-year-old scorer and rebounder out of Emilio Aguinaldo College. The 6’4” small forward averaged 18.06 points, 12.38 rebounds, 2.88 assists, and 1.56 blocks in his fifth and final year to lead EAC to a 7-11 record in the last NCAA season.
Gabriel, on the other hand, is the 24-year-old 6’6” center-forward out of Colegio de San Lorenzo who averaged 13 points, 7 rebounds, and 1.71 assists in Season 2 of the UCBL. He was the second of two first-round picks chosen successively by TNT in the PBA Rookie Draft last Oct. 29.
The Texters added 6’6” back-up center-forward Justin Chua to the deal in exchange for the Fuel Masters’ 2019 second round pick.
Phoenix also shipped 6’6” center-forward Michael Miranda to NLEX for the Road Warriors’ second-round pick in the 2018 draft.
