TNT releases strongly-worded statement against ‘biased commissioner’ Chito Narvasa

PBA Media Bureau

TNT team manager Virgil Villavicencio released a statement against PBA Commissioner Chito Narvasa after the latter divulged the name of TNT assistant team manager Magnum Membrere as the one who submitted the application in behalf of Christian Standhardinger for the 2017 PBA Rookie Draft.

Full context of Villavicencio’s statement:

“Commissioner Chito Narvasa talked to Christian Standhardinger in Lebanon to join the draft dahil alam niya na manipis at walang dating. He made it clear that it would be okay for Christian to miss the draft camp and just have a proxy submit his application, since he will be out of the country. So of course ibang tao ang nag-submit. No logical reason to divulge the info other than a futile and pathetic attempt to take the spotlight off him.

TNT management resents the statement of Comm. Narvasa, uncalled for. Just proves that he is biased.

Magnum Membrere was there as a representative of Smart Gilas. It was a sincere gesture to assist Christian with a basic admin filing process because he flew back to Germany after the SEA Games.

We resented his statement because it is uncalled for. Why did he have to use us to justify his decision?

In addition, any team has the right to see what trades would make sense for them regardless of players thrown into the equation. His decision robs the PBA of the dynamism, excitement and suspense that a player of Standhardinger’s caliber would bring going up against Fajardo. If the commissioner does not see this simple perspective then he may not be the right person for the job.

We are afraid as to who should be the custodian of the PBA’s overall paramount interest. He talks about parity and equilibrium of trades but where is it?

The people have spoken Comm. Narvasa, listen to the feedback!”
